TMwiki

General

One of the easiest ways of editing and publishing information on the Internet are wiki environments. TMwiki is a Topic Map wiki application which uses the features of wiki’s to enable a collaborated authoring of Topic Maps.

In this project the wiki engine (Dokuwiki) was adapted. Now any XTM compliant Topic Maps can be uploaded and directly edited in the wiki. The authoring is only a part of the problem. Users must also view and navigate in Topic Maps. For this reason the web based generic Topic Map browser (TMV) was developed during this project which is used as a graphical display and navigation interface for TMwiki. With TMwiki you can edit Topic Maps and with TMV you can directly view the changes.

Take a look at -: bibmap.xtm to see how TMwiki is working. Bibmap.xtm is a bibliography of the Topic Maps Research literature created by Lutz Maicher. The Topic Maps Research Bibliography will obviously never be completed. With the help of TMwiki we can work together to enhance and expand it.

Developer: Hendrik Thomas.

Features:

  • easy editing of Topic Maps in a wiki environment
  • several short-cut-buttons help the user to insert the xml Topic Map content
  • automated validation of the content based on the XTM 1.0 DTD
  • version system
  • RRS feet

Take a look at our TMwiki tutorial to learn how to edit Topic Maps. TMwiki is just a prototype if you encounter any bugs please report them to the bugs and feature page.

Summary

TMwiki is a wiki engine which enables the collaborative development of Topic Maps. In this way the content of Topic Maps can be easily changed and expanded. The generic Topic Map browser TMV provides an easy way to view and navigate in the Topic Map.

Beside that, TMwiki is still normal wiki - and I hope, that we can together expand the content of the wiki to create an actual and broad information collection about the topic map universe. And the best thing is with the TMwiki we are able to store this information easily in Topic Maps. This whole discussion is about Topic Maps and it would be very curious if we don’t save and share our information in topic maps. We should try to start to use the power of Topic maps.
